Nicaragua real estate is suddenly on the radar of many baby boomers. As retirement looms, folks are starting to look for desirable and affordable places to retire. Nicaragua combines beauty and tranquility with affordability like no other retirement destination. Once riddled with civil unrest, Nicaragua has transformed itself into a wonderful place to relax and enjoy life.
It’s no secret that Nicaragua is one of the most reasonably priced places to live in the western hemisphere. Food prices for basic vegetables and fruits are one quarter to one fifth the cost of those same items offered in North American cities. The cost of dairy and meat is less than half. Delicious fresh fish costs a fraction of the price. Recently issued figures suggest the cost of living in Nicaragua is 70% less than the cost of living in North American cities.
Every part of Nicaragua has something different to offer a retired couple looking for authentic Central American culture. Everywhere in Nicaragua you will find the same slowed down pace of life. You will have time to enjoy a beautiful ocean sunset, wander through Colonial towns, go for a walk on the beach, enjoy a book in a hammock, or visit with locals and other expatriats.
The climate in Nicaragua is almost always beautiful with the heaviest rains of the green season generally limited to the month of October. The skies are blue and the air is fresh. The temperatures hover around a warm 88 degrees Fahrenheit and most days enjoy a refreshing off shore breeze. If you prefer a more temperate climate then you might prefer the mountainous regions of northern Nicaragua. The coffee growing areas are a very beautiful luch green and enjoy year round temperate climates.
It has only been quite recently that the already value priced Nicaragua became even more attractive, as world economic conditions led to a slow down in almost every real estate market. Nicaragua had recently enjoyed a mini real estate boom, but still managed to remain relatively inexpensive compared to other Central American investment and retirement locations. Now with the economic slowdown, a number of previously unavailable opportunities are presenting themselves. For example, a North American style vacation home with ocean views can be found for under $200,000, whereas the equivalent property may sell for two to three times that amount in Costa Rica.
Keep Nicaragua in mind when you are doing your tropical retirement destination research. Whether you choose volcano views with a temperate climate, or sunny warm weather and ocean breezes, you will more than likely be surprised at the options available to you, and the cost of investment and living. Visit for yourself, and you won’t take very long to add Nicaragua to your list of retirement possibilities.
