Performing a Background Check

by Nazari Ballarno

Performing background checks is very common these days, especially since it is so easy to get online and find out virtually anything you would to know about a person. Background checks are used from everyone from landlords to potential employers.

Credit checks are a very important part of background checks because not only do they confirm whether the person is credit worthy, but it also confirms other information such as full names, all addresses on record, and other pertinent information that may be of interest to the person conducting the search.

A comprehensive background search will include a criminal and civil records search. Employers will want to know that the subject does not have a history of abuse or discrimination in the workplace. They will use both tools to get an overview of your personality. They will often check immigration records for any patterns as well.

Preemployment checks (especially in large transportation companies such as airlines and delivery services) have become very popular the past few years. These checks will often keep the employer from offering the position if there are problems in the files. This saves the company a lot of time and money possibly going after someone who is not eligible to work in their company.

Verifying employment records is also done as a last step in the background check search process. It is usually done after the subject has passed pre-employment screening and has been offered the job. Once you perform all these checks, you will most likely find out everything you need to know to make an informed decision. Using the tools that are available, and doing a comprehensive check will acertain that you are getting the right employee or tenant for your company or for even your yourself.
