HUDs program lets people who can not pay market rent to live in better apartments. The types of people that apply to subsidized apartments are low income families, students, seniors, etc.

To find out your qualification level for living in subsidized apartments, contact HUD or visit their website. Their website has information that you will need to determine eligibility. In order to live in subsidized apartments, your yearly income has to be below a set amount which is established by HUD. Each county has a different income limit so it is important to check each time you move to a different county.

Go to a HUD office and fill out the necessary forms after you have determined that you qualify for subsidized apartments. You can start searching for and applying to subsidized apartments after HUD gives you the thumbs up. The best way to begin your search is online.

The first place online you should visit to find subsidized apartments is the HUD website. They list all subsidized apartments in the city that you search in. If not, you can still use other apartment search sites and look for subsidized apartments. The apartments probably will not say that they are subsidized but you can usually tell from the rent amount. The rent is usually lower than other similar apartments in the area.

If you want to get an idea for the area you want to live in, you can drive around the area. By doing this you can see the neighborhood and surrounding area of the subsidized apartments. You can also ask the subsidized apartment staff to show you the inside of a unit.

After finding some subsidized apartments that you think suits you, you should check out each one of them. Do a cost benefit analysis on each apartment complex. Find out what services each complex offers. For example, do they include internet, water, or electric in the rent?

Most importantly you should check out the inside of the apartment. Do not only look inside the model rooms either as this can be misleading. The model apartments are nice looking since they want to get you to rent the place. Point out the problems that you find to the landlord and have them fix it before you sign the contract.

In some cases, you may be put on a waiting list for subsidized apartments. Some areas have a much greater demand for subsidized apartments than others. Therefore, you could end up waiting several months. Just put your name on the list for several subsidized apartments and you might get one.
