Greatly Adding Value with Easy Bathroom Modifications

by Thomas Johnsen, CPC

Your bathroom is one of the most heavily used rooms in your home. Of course, all of this traffic causes a lot of wear and tear; your bathroom will be in need of an update from time to time. You may also need to make your bathroom a little more spacious to accommodate the needs of your growing family.

Regardless of your reasons, there are a lot of great things to be had by updating your bathroom. One of them is to get everything repaired and redone. Your grout may be giving out, the tile starting to chip; even your bathtub may be starting to develop cracks. This kind of disrepair seriously detracts from the look of your bathroom and you’ll need to take care of these things to prevent mildew, mold and even water damage to your home.

Water damage can be expensive to repair – and mold removal isn’t cheap either; mold can also pose a serious health risk. If your bathroom is in need of repair, you should take care of this as soon as possible; it’s probably time to remodel and update your bathroom.

Switching out old, cracked tile, regrouting and replacing your old fixtures with new ones will prevent water damage while giving your bathroom a new look. If there’s already water damage or mold present, this is the time to take care of it – the longer you wait, the more expensive it will be to repair.

Installing new tile, a new tub and new fixture can give your bathroom a whole new look; it’s about time your bathroom rejoined the 21st century just like the rest of your home anyways. You can do this all without spending a fortune as well. You can install a rebath (a tub liner) if your tub is in good condition but has some cosmetic wear. You can also have your tub refinished – cracks and chips will be repaired, then the tub is primed, sealed and painted in a new color. If your tub just needs a new look rather than needing to be replaced, this is a good choice.

You can make your bathroom look a lot better by replacing old tile and regrouting. These steps will also help to prevent water damage. You can take it further and give your whole bathroom a new, up to date look by replacing your old sink and/or toilet and repainting. This is a relatively low cost way to update your bathroom.

Updating your bathroom will also increase the value of your home; if you’re trying to sell your home or are considering doing so in the near future, now is the time to update that old bathroom. A new bathtub, updated fixtures and flooring can add a lot to the selling price of your home and make it much more attractive to potential buyers.

And of course, we spend a lot of our time in the bathroom – there’s no avoiding this, so your bathroom should be a pleasant, enjoyable environment. By making over your bathroom, you’ll turn this, one of the most used of rooms into a place which is a luxury, rather than a necessity.
